Introducing Bloom Women’s Health

Caring, full-service health support specially designed for Queensland women

“Women in particular need to keep an eye on their physical and mental health, because if we are scurrying to and from appointments and errands, we don’t have a lot of time to take care of ourselves. We need to do a better job of putting ourselves higher on our own ‘to do’ list.”  Michelle Obama, former First Lady of the United States of America.

Bloom understands where the gaps are in managing Queensland women’s health

Dr Glenda McLaren has assembled the team at Bloom Women’s Health to launch a service that helps encourage early intervention and preventative women’s healthcare throughout the lifetime, and particularly during important physical milestones, such as post-pregnancy / pre-menopause phase of life.

“There is a real need at the time between when women finish having babies and when they later start menopause – the mid-life period. Before women reach the menopause stage, we want to make sure that they can access preventative health strategies, before issues occur.

“During pregnancy, women are really motivated with their health and attend regular appointments. They are actively listening, and they’re taking healthcare advice on board. And then what we’re seeing is after pregnancy, women then let their own health take a back seat, often for years, until there’s an urgent medical need,” Dr McLaren explained.

“My vision is to help women to better monitor and improve their health after having a baby, so that when they reach menopause in 15- or 20-years’ time, they’re not going to suddenly have to address their cardiovascular, osteoporosis, diabetes or incontinence risk, to name a few examples.

“There is a huge opportunity to support women after their pregnancies, to not ‘lose them’, but instead empower them to better manage their health and wellness, before problems arise in later life.

“My goal is to make Bloom Women’s Health the one-stop-shop for all your healthcare needs, and promoting wellness at every stage for healthy ageing,” Dr McLaren said.

Helping modern women bloom with a unique, integrated approach to care

From young women, through pregnancy and motherhood, midlife and menopause, Dr McLaren and her team strive to help women to bloom.

To do this, Bloom knows that modern women want and need more from healthcare – not just medicine. Our patients want to:

  • Understand their condition within their overall health,
  • Access leading specialists,
  • Access other allied health professionals and alternatives to pharmaceutical and surgery treatments, and
  • Know what they can do themselves.

As well as the integrated health clinic in Spring Hill, and a strong referral network of other specialists, Bloom Women’s Health also has a future vision to become an evidence-based, online education platform for women across all ages starting with adolescent health, and moving through into pre pregnancy, pregnancy, post pregnancy and menopause.

We are excited to continue to build our services to best meet the needs of Queensland women, and we look forward to keeping you updated on news, support and advice from our team members.
